NYFE Summary

An international team of architects planned the headquarters under Wallace Harrison’s direction. The original complex brought together the tall Secretariat tower, the General Assembly building and the riverfront Conference building. Its construction turned a former industrial waterfront site into a working center for diplomacy.

Public tours explain the organization’s work and may enter the General Assembly Hall and Security Council Chamber when meetings permit. Other tours focus on the headquarters’ architecture or its collection of artworks and historical objects donated by countries and other donors.
