NYFE Summary

The federal government built the structure as an appraisers’ warehouse. Federal officials questioned whether the city could designate a federal building as a landmark. The commission acted to support its future preservation.

Tall window groups rise through five floors before ending in arches. Smaller arches run around the upper levels and curved corners, changing the scale as the walls rise. Most of the decoration comes from this arrangement of brick and windows.
