NYFE Summary

Frank Woolworth paid for this tower with the fortune made by his chain of low-price stores. It held the world's height record until 1930. Behind the ornament, a steel frame carried the building while deep foundations reached through wet ground to bedrock. It also had its own power plant.

The exterior's terra-cotta details continue from street level to the tower's crown. Carved animals include bats, frogs and owls high above the pavement. This entry is an exterior stop. The lobby is not open for general sightseeing; occasional announced events should not be confused with regular public access.
