Total state backing reaches $15 million toward a project estimated at $52.3 million.

A Manhattan community center has a new $10 million state commitment to help modernize aging facilities.

The 14th Street Y's renovation has $15 million in state support when combined with $5 million secured by state Senator Brian Kavanagh. The overall project is projected to cost $52.3 million, the governor's office says.

The downtown center has added a Jewish life director, expanded its LABA NY artist fellowship and launched the 14Y Selah recovery community. Its executive director says additional space is needed as demand for Jewish community programming grows.
