NYFE Summary
The building began with shops on the ground floor during Broadway’s growth as Williamsburg’s main commercial street. Manufacturing later occupied much of it. A metalware company used the property for about fifty years, making trays, pitchers and coffeepots.
Atlantic Iron Works made the cast-iron front. Tall calla lilies decorate the bases of some of its fluted supports, while smaller columns, leaves and geometric bands divide the upper windows. The long facade shows how industrial casting could produce detailed street architecture.
