NYFE Summary

The Antioch congregation moved here from downtown Brooklyn in 1950. Under pastor George Lawrence, it supported civil-rights and neighborhood programs. Its guests included Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks and other Black leaders and artists.

The wide central bay combines tall arched windows with patterned shingles and brick. Different towers and roof shapes give the front the varied scale of its neighboring houses. The congregation later acquired the adjacent house for church use.
