NYFE Summary

German immigrant William Ulmer expanded a lager brewery here into one of Brooklyn’s larger producers. Lager needed sustained cold temperatures. Cellars, cold-storage additions and mechanical refrigeration supported its production and aging.

Prohibition ended brewing here in 1920. The buildings later served manufacturing, retail and residential uses. Arched windows, patterned brickwork and the separate decorated office preserve parts of the old brewing complex.
