NYFE Summary
Henry L. Doherty’s energy company commissioned the tower after plans to expand an earlier Wall Street property failed. Its offices occupied a building that rose in stages toward a narrow illuminated crown.
The eastern entrances include small limestone models of the building itself. Sunbursts, sunflowers and stepped shapes decorate the lower floors. Looking upward, the same stepped pattern continues through the tower to its spire.
