NYFE Summary

This farmhouse survives from the period when the Blackwell family owned and farmed the island. As the city developed hospitals and other institutions here, the house became a home for their administrators, including the almshouse warden.

Its clapboard walls, small windows and columned porch contrast with the surrounding apartment buildings. Restoration preserved the house when the island was redeveloped. It now serves as a place to tell Roosevelt Island’s history.
