NYFE Summary
A fire destroyed the academy’s first home on Montague Street in 1903. The institution moved to a new building on Lafayette Avenue, designed by theater architects Herts and Tallant. A large foyer connected its opera house, concert hall and other gathering spaces.
The former concert hall became four cinemas while retaining much of its decoration. The building still houses the Howard Gilman Opera House and BAM Rose Cinemas. Choose a performance or screening to see the interior, and confirm the address: BAM also presents events in other nearby venues.
