NYFE Summary

Portrait painter A. A. Anderson commissioned a building suited to artists who needed large workspaces. Edward Steichen and Fernand Léger were among the artists who later worked here.

The broad windows face north across the park. Some rise through two floors, with small balconies, triangular tops and carved surrounds marking their edges. Their size makes the building’s original studio purpose visible from the street.
