NYFE Summary
When the bank opened in 1859, a customer could start an account with ten cents. It began in a small room in a post office and grew into a major savings institution.
Above the entrance, carved figures show youth preparing for work and old age enjoying its rewards. A clock sits between them inside a gear-shaped frame. Winged-cap dime carvings also appear at the entrances, linking the decoration directly to the bank’s name.
