NYFE Summary
The bank encouraged working people and immigrants to save small amounts of money. As the Williamsburg Bridge shifted the neighborhood’s commercial center, the bank moved its headquarters to face the bridge plaza. A later expansion nearly doubled the building’s size.
Four tall Corinthian columns support a pediment with a clock and the bank’s name. The limestone front rests on a granite base, and a second colonnade continues along the side street. This is the Williamsburgh bank, separate from the Dime building at DeKalb Avenue.
