NYFE Summary

The bank occupied its grand headquarters for only a few years before financial trouble led to its closure. The city later used the building as a magistrates’ court. An Orthodox congregation bought it in 1961 and adapted it as a cathedral.

White terracotta covers all four sides. Columned porches face the streets beneath a shallow central dome. The building’s cross-shaped plan helped make its later conversion to a church possible.
