NYFE Summary
The school trained young women and men for clerical work. Its assembly hall also hosted the Brooklyn Philosophical Association, with speakers including Emma Goldman, Eugene Debs and Carrie Chapman Catt. Their subjects extended well beyond office training.
The building later became a public school and then a home for Beth Jacob’s teachers’ academy and girls’ school. After World War II, young Holocaust survivors studied here. A central tower, projecting end sections and stone-trimmed windows still mark the old institutional front.
