NYFE Summary
The post office was planned beside the original Pennsylvania Station so mail could move between railway cars and sorting rooms. Its broad staircase and row of twenty columns survive across Eighth Avenue from the station site. The long inscription above the columns describes the work of postal couriers.
Part of the building now contains Moynihan Train Hall. The public concourse reveals the older steel structure beneath a large skylight. The historic postal lobby remains in use, with ceiling seals, chandeliers and an operating post office.
