NYFE Summary

Flatbush residents rejected annexation by Brooklyn before building a town hall for court sessions, elections and public meetings. A ballroom upstairs hosted social gatherings, including the centennial celebration of nearby Erasmus Hall Academy.

The building later served as a police headquarters after Flatbush joined Brooklyn in 1894. Its corner tower, pointed windows and bands of pale stone remain visible from the street. An inscription on the tower identifies the old town hall.
