NYFE Summary

The triangular plot was known as the flat iron before the tower existed. The building’s formal name honored George A. Fuller, whose construction company kept offices here. Photographers Alfred Stieglitz and Edward Steichen helped make its narrow profile familiar early in its history.

The shape is a right-angle triangle, with a broad side and a very narrow northern tip. Moving around the exterior shows how much the apparent width changes. Look beyond the outline for the limestone and glazed terra-cotta decoration. Flatiron North Plaza provides a public viewpoint across from the tip.
