NYFE Summary

The Sisters of Mercy established this institution to care for young children. Its early campus included a nursery, a school, a chapel and separate facilities for sick babies. The orphanage closed in the 1980s as approaches to child welfare changed.

The main building and its lower wings extend across a full blockfront. Carved stone surrounds the central entrance, while dormer windows break through the steep roof. Its raised lawn and retaining wall set the institution apart from the surrounding residential streets.
