NYFE Summary

This building served Black children while Brooklyn maintained racially separate public schools. The institution grew from an African Free School that existed before 1841. Renaming it Public School 69 in 1887 did not immediately end its segregation.

Arched windows and a raised central gable give the small schoolhouse a formal front. Brick arches above the central windows repeat the larger openings below. The Board of Education gave up the building in 1934.
