NYFE Summary
The Children’s Aid Society used this home to provide lodging and practical training for girls without secure housing. Bedrooms, reading and sitting rooms shared the building with rooms equipped with sewing machines and typewriters. The Florence Crittendon League later ran it as Barrett House, another residence for girls.
A stepped brick gable rises beside smaller dormer windows. Sandstone frames the entrance, where a small balcony projects over the doorway. These uneven roof shapes distinguish the former institution from the neighboring rows of houses.
