Elmira Christian funded a free kindergarten in memory of her husband. Teachers reviewed the plans, and a visitors’ gallery allowed people to observe the educational experiment. The school served an area with many Norwegian immigrant families.
The compact building has carved entrance columns, a small balcony and an ornate crest above the roofline. It later housed services of Brooklyn’s First Spanish Methodist Church. It has been a private residence since 1974.
