NYFE Summary

Automat customers selected food from small glass-fronted compartments and opened the doors with coins. Horn & Hardart made this form of self-service dining familiar across New York. The chain operated a restaurant here before the space passed to other uses.

The upper floor retains colored terra-cotta panels with stylized flowers and zigzags. Part of the original broad entrance arch remains visible above the changed storefront. The decoration records the building's restaurant history.
