NYFE Summary
Local residents established the bank to serve a growing commercial town. As deposits increased, it moved into more conspicuous quarters on the main shopping street. The facade gave a small building the formal appearance of a private club or townhouse.
Carved limestone frames the windows, balconies and entrance. Curved iron railings and round windows add detail close to the street. The building records the period when Jamaica’s banks and businesses were expanding around its rail and road connections.
