NYFE Summary

The Jewish Daily Forward printed news, literature and advice for a large Yiddish-speaking readership. Its Bintel Brief letters column brought readers' family and working lives into the paper. The newspaper also supported labor organizing and socialist candidates.

Its headquarters combined editorial offices with a printing plant. The tall brick front, decorated upper stories and carved political portraits made the newspaper visible in the neighborhood it served. The building remains a record of the Lower East Side's immigrant press.
