NYFE Summary

The restaurant moved here in 1892, bringing its oyster-and-chop-house business to Fulton Street. The dining room preserves mahogany furnishings, mirrored walls and chandeliers. These features make the room itself part of a visit, beyond the meal.

Edna Lewis became chef in 1988, bringing her Southern cooking to the restaurant. After the old business closed in 2004, the space passed through several other uses. A new team restored the restaurant and reopened it in 2021.
