NYFE Summary

Hearst commissioned the low building as the base of a larger publishing headquarters. The planned tower was not completed during the Depression. A later expansion kept the historic exterior and rose from within it.

Large figures stand on the piers along the old roofline. Above them, the newer tower's diagonal framework forms a pattern of triangles across the glass. From the street, the two parts show very different approaches to building a corporate headquarters.
