NYFE Summary

An earlier wooden church on this site burned in 1857. Its replacement used brick arches and two towers of different heights. The congregation remained until the 1970s, when the city acquired the building through an urban renewal plan.

The restored building now contains a 400-seat performance space run by Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning. Its programs include jazz concerts, film screenings and community events. This venue is separate from the organization’s galleries and classrooms farther along Jamaica Avenue.
