NYFE Summary

John Jacob Astor financed a hotel intended to attract theatergoers as well as overnight guests. Large restaurants and bars were part of its original appeal. Prohibition helped end that first hotel period, and the building became offices.

Red brick walls rise to a copper-covered mansard roof with corner pavilions. Carved stone surrounds the windows and entrances. After decades of other uses, the property returned to hotel use in 2015.
