NYFE Summary

Lillie P. Bliss, Mary Quinn Sullivan and Abby Aldrich Rockefeller helped establish the museum in 1929. They wanted an institution devoted to modern art at a time when traditional museums gave it little attention.

The collection reaches beyond painting and sculpture to photography, architecture, design, film and performance. Galleries and special exhibitions present different parts of that collection. The Sculpture Garden offers an outdoor space within the museum, and audio guides help visitors explore the art.
