NYFE Summary

Henry Collins Brown founded the museum in 1923. Its first home was Gracie Mansion. As the collection grew, the museum moved to a purpose-built home on land provided by the city.

The collection includes Jacob Riis photographs, Eugene O’Neill manuscripts and the Stettheimer dollhouse, which contains a miniature work by Marcel Duchamp. Exhibitions use objects and images to explore the people and changes that shaped New York.
