NYFE Summary

Artists and craftspeople in Suzhou made the garden's tiles, carved beams and paving before assembling them at Snug Harbor. Traditional wooden joints hold its structures together without nails or glue. The garden opened through a partnership that included the city and New York's Chinese American community.

Eight pavilions stand among ponds, waterfalls, bamboo and large sculptural rocks. Zigzag bridges and paths change the views as visitors move through the garden. A mosaic in the upper pavilion combines fragments of Chinese rice bowls with American beer bottles.
