NYFE Summary

The former Court Street station served a short shuttle to Hoyt–Schermerhorn before closing in 1946. Transit workers reopened it in 1976 for an exhibition marking the nation’s bicentennial. It was planned for only two months but became a permanent museum.

Visitors can board vintage subway and elevated cars along the old platform. Displays also follow changes to turnstiles and fare collection and let visitors sit at the wheel of a city bus. The exhibits explore the people, engineering and design behind New York’s public transit.
