NYFE Summary

The building served as Brooklyn’s fire headquarters before the city joined Greater New York. Its tower was used to watch for fires. A large decorated arch marked the opening through which fire engines left the building.

Dark brick, red sandstone and granite create layers of color across the front. Terra-cotta details, copper trim and red roof tiles add to the pattern. The headquarters moved to Manhattan after consolidation in 1898.
