NYFE Summary

This hotel supplied rooms, restaurants and nightlife for people visiting the theater district. Its basement later housed Billy Rose’s Diamond Horseshoe nightclub, where performers included Dick Haymes and W. C. Handy. The hotel’s business followed the neighborhood through periods of decline and reinvestment.

The tall copper roof carries large dormer windows, urns and projecting pediments. Near the sidewalk, a row of large arches and carved window surrounds provides another band of ornament. Plainer middle floors separate these two decorated zones.
