NYFE Summary

The branch served a waterfront community shaped by ferries, factories and immigration. Carnegie’s library gift helped give that neighborhood a permanent public reading room opposite its village park.

Columns frame the entrance beneath a triangular roof. Broad arched windows light the low building. Inside, NYPL identifies original fireplaces, oak shelving and furniture from the library’s early years.
