NYFE Summary

Generators here supplied electricity to Brooklyn streetcars and elevated railways. After the plant stopped operating, its abandoned hall became known as the Batcave and attracted graffiti artists. The surviving engine house has large arched windows and brick walls facing the canal.

The restored complex now supports ceramics, printmaking and the production of public art. A new building replaces the lost boiler house. Exhibitions, performances, talks and classes bring visitors into a place built for industrial work.
