NYFE Summary

The city placed this recreation complex on reclaimed waterfront land during the Depression. Works Progress Administration funding helped turn an industrial area into a place for public swimming and recreation. The nearby housing development followed soon afterward.

A long, low bathhouse curves around the pool. Broad brick arches, rounded openings and pale horizontal bands organize its front. Locker-room areas were also designed to serve other recreation uses outside the swimming season.
