NYFE Summary

Artists and patrons formed the club in 1871, then moved into this former coal merchant’s home in 1917. Its collection grew through gifts from members and purchase awards. Changing exhibitions show works from that collection alongside art by living artists.

The brownstone retains its high entrance steps, carved doorway and iron balconies. Public galleries keep the house in use as an arts venue. The club also holds demonstrations, lectures, concerts and auctions, with admission arrangements that vary by program.
