NYFE Summary
The Somers brothers printed pictures directly onto tinplate sheets, then cut and shaped the metal into containers. This replaced the need for separate paper labels. Their factory made packaging for many products before plastic and aluminum containers became common.
The long brick wings meet at a taller corner pavilion, with arches and bands of contrasting brick around the windows. American Can absorbed the company in 1901. The complex now houses artists, makers and cultural businesses as the Old American Can Factory.
