NYFE Summary
The parish began when Westchester was still a separate town, with a courthouse and village green beside its church. Successive congregations built on the same ground. A royal charter later allowed the parish to manage its affairs as an independent corporate body.
After fire damaged the present stone church, the original architect’s son rebuilt it and added high windows above the side aisles. The rough stone, steep slate roofs and projecting transept remain visible beside the old family graves. The neighboring chapel is a separate building within the same historic enclosure.
