NYFE Summary

Local parents founded the museum, which first operated in a rented storefront. It moved to Snug Harbor as the former sailors’ retirement home became a cultural campus. A later expansion joined the museum to a historic barn through a glass passageway.

The exhibits invite children to build, perform and experiment. They can explore the framing and systems inside a house, try theater props and costumes, or investigate insects. Other activities use bridges, wetlands and boats to explain the island’s natural setting and everyday connections.
