Wind and radar across the five boroughs
Radar shows rain, snow and storms detected by NOAA in the last few minutes: green is light, yellow moderate, red heavy. On a dry day it stays clear.
Straight from the National Weather Service.
NYFE Weather shows the official forecast and observations for your spot: current conditions from the nearest weather station, an hourly outlook, the week ahead and any active watches or warnings.
Sources: National Weather Service API, NOAA radar, and U.S. Census ZIP code areas.
Before you head out
Where does this weather come from?
Forecasts, alerts and observations come straight from the National Weather Service (weather.gov), and radar from NOAA. They are free public data from the U.S. government. NYFE doesn’t add its own predictions.
Why is the current temperature different from the forecast?
Current conditions come from the nearest NWS weather station, such as Central Park, LaGuardia or JFK. The forecast covers a 2.5 km grid square, so the two can differ by a few degrees.
How does the wind map work?
The flowing lines follow the NWS hourly wind forecast, blended from 25 points across the five boroughs and the harbor. They move with the wind, faster and warmer in colour as it picks up. Hover to read the wind at any spot, turn on Arrows for exact readings, and use the slider or Play to step through the next 24 hours.
Does it work outside New York?
The forecast works for any U.S. ZIP code or location the National Weather Service covers. The wind map is built for New York City.
What happens to my location?
Your location is only requested when you tap “Use my location.” It is rounded and sent to the National Weather Service to look up your forecast, and your last place is remembered on this device. NYFE doesn’t store it.
