Financial District and Battery Park City
The Financial District and Battery Park City offer different views of Lower Manhattan: early federal government and a historic parish to the east, remembrance at the World Trade Center, and a later-built Hudson River neighborhood to the west. Choose a specific stop before planning museum tickets or indoor access.

Understanding Financial District and Battery Park City
George Washington took his presidential oath in 1789 at the original Federal Hall. The present memorial and its Washington statue mark that site. Nearby Trinity's churchyard includes Alexander Hamilton's grave, connecting a separate institution with the early republic.
Battery Park City was created on reclaimed Hudson River land. The state authority’s environmental review describes development beginning in the 1980s, with homes, offices, parks and cultural uses on a constructed shoreline. Brookfield Place’s Winter Garden and North Cove give a visitor a concrete view of that later waterfront landscape.
